April 19th, 1775 – The American Revolution began in Lexington, Massachusetts. April 3rd, 1973 – Ring, ring! The first ever phone call from a mobile phone was made on this day in downtown Manhattan. Martin Cooper, an employee of Motorola, phoned the Bell Labs headquarters in New Jersey. Who did he call? His rival, of course: Dr. Joel S. Engel. Motorola’s handheld prototype was a sight to behold.
