Spring has sprung, and we’ve made it to our next stop on the #MHROADTRIP: ATLANTA! We ventured down south to chat with mom and blogger Adabelle Buntrock as she explored her favorite parts of the city, and what makes them so colorful.
There’s nothing like Piedmont Park in the spring. What makes this park so special is its ability to transport you from the city to a place of peace & serenity. When the sun is up and the flowers are in bloom, it’s a no-brainer to head here and escape the hustle and bustle. You’ll soon be captivated by everything nature has to offer in this luscious, green park.
It’s one of Adabelle’s favorite spots in Midtown for a reason: “Piedmont Park is a really big park in the middle of Atlanta at Midtown. There's so much to do there. It’s super busy. When it’s warm out, we like to go there for a picnic and bring the kids. You get a beautiful background of Atlanta and the buildings and everything. And, it’s special to us because that's where my husband and I got engaged.” Plus, don’t forget to stop at the Green Market, located at 12th street and Piedmont Avenue Gate, where you can buy fresh food from farmers and local businesses (and perhaps even stumble upon live music)!
You don’t have to venture far from Piedmont Park to arrive at the BeltLine. Adabelle says, “…it’s a large sidewalk, I'd like to call it, right off of Piedmont Park. There's so much to do. People being very active and running, plus lots of pets. There's a lot of restaurants and a lot of shopping. So, there's just so much to do. You can spend your whole afternoon there.”
Some popular activities include taking a bus or a bike tour, where you can learn more about the project—including the history and long-term plans. Or, take it all in via walking tour, where a trained docent explains the various horticultural collections along the Eastside and Westside trails. If you’re more of a “stroll and look at art” kind of person, check out the various exhibits, murals, performances, and installations going on here. You’re in for a colorful time, mama!
The last stop on Adabelle’s saturated tour of Atlanta is her alma mater, Georgia Tech. “I graduated in 2010, and I just love the campus there. Again, there's a lot of energy. It's in the middle of the city. And my husband and I will just go for a walk there and it kind of reminds me of who I was back when I was a student.” Located right in the heart of the city, Georgia Tech spans 400 acres and is just steps away from all that this central location offers: parks and tree-lined trails, museums and theaters, or restaurants and venues.
But, Adabelle places special emphasis on the restaurant scene near the college, saying, “We’re big foodies. I also love a good rooftop to enjoy some drinks, socialize and enjoy the views of our city.”
